ARE YOU NERVOUS?: Thoughts on Marriage

“Are you nervous?”

“Hmmm,” I paused before answering, “If I look at the big picture of marriage, yes, it can seem kind of daunting, but when I look at the day-to-day… no.”

The best thing my mom taught me during my time in the hospital—overwhelmed by the medical drama of my ailing spine and rising stack of homework—was to take it one day at a time and if that seemed impossible, well, take it one hour, one minute, or even one second at a time.

This advice has added tremendous value to my life.

I believe in the power of today.

How can I live into my calling today?

I have SO MANY DREAMS.

Here’s two of them:

1.) Be an incredible wife.

2.) Be a NYT Bestselling author.

It’s important to examine the big picture, but to ONLY look at it can overwhelm anyone!

Writing a novel?

There’s so much to write and edit. I’ll never get it done!

But when I break it down into what’s doable for today it’s less overwhelming. Each day I’ll commit to at least 15 minutes. To at least ONE scene.

Overtime, if I do this each day, I will have a completed novel on my hands.

So far I have TWO!

Anything worthwhile takes discipline, especially marriage.

Everyday I ask myself: What kind of woman do I want to be?

I seek to be the kind of woman who abides in God daily and who believes that there is ALWAYS MORE within me through power of Christ. I promise to fight for unity, shower my partner with grace, and always turn my love on.

If I focus on being the best possible wife for today and then tomorrow and then the next day… overtime I will have a great marriage.

My favorite line from A LOVE LETTER LIFE is “It is in our everyday, sometimes seemingly insignificant decisions that sow either seeds of separateness or of oneness.”

Yes, I’m broken. Yes, I’ll mess up.

But with grace and a partner who’s in it 100% too—am, I nervous?

No.

Take Care,
Amanda
